SOAL BAHASA INGGRIS IELTS: MATCHING HEADINGS - MENEMPATKAN JUDUL YANG TEPAT

The Physics of Traffic Behavior

1) ___________________________________________________

Some years ago, when several theoretical physicists, principally Dirk Helbing and Boris Kerner of Stuttgart, Germany, began publishing papers on traffic flow in publications normally read by traffic engineers, they were clearly working outside their usual sphere of investigation. They had noticed that if the simulated the movement of vehicles on a highway, using the equations that describe how the molecules of a gas move, some very strange results emerged.

2) ___________________________________________________

The physicists have challenged proposals to set a maximum capacity for vehicles on highways. They argue that it may not be enough. They suggest that preventing breakdowns in the flow of traffic could ultimately require implementing the radical idea that has been suggested from time to time: directly regulating the speed and spacing of individual cars along a highway with central computers and sensors that communicate with each car’s engine and brake controls.

3) ___________________________________________________

Research into traffic control is generally centered in civil engineering departments, but the theories of the physicists is greeted with some skepticism. Civil engineers favor a practical approach to problems and believe traffic congestion is the result of poor road construction (two lanes becoming one lane or dangerous curves), which constricts the flow of traffic. Engineers questioned how well the physicists theoretical results relate to traffic in the real world.

4) ___________________________________________________

James Banks, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at San Diego State University in the US, suggested that a sudden slowdown in traffic may have less to do with chaos theory than with driver psychology. As traffic gets heavier and the passing lane gets more crowded, aggressive drivers move to other lanes to try to pass.

He also felt that when a driver in a fast lane brakes a little to maintain a safe distance between vehicles, the shock wave travels back much more rapidly than it would in the other slower lanes, because each following driver has to react more quickly. Consequently, as a road becomes congested.

List of Headings:

  1. How a maths experiment actually reduced traffic congestion
  2. How a concept from one field of study was applied in another
  3. A lack of investment in driver training
  4. Areas of doubt and disagreement between experts
  5. How different countries have dealt with traffic congestion
  6. The impact of driver behavior on traffic speed
  7. A proposal to take control away from the driver

5) ___________________________________________________

After hours of driving south in the pitch-black darkness of the Nevada desert, a dome of gold suddenly appears on the horizon. Soon, a road sign confirms the obvious; Las Vegas 30 miles. Looking skyward, you notice that the Big Dipper is harder to find than it was an hour ago.

6) ___________________________________________________

Light pollution - the artificial light that illuminates more than its intended target area - has become a problem of increasing concern across the country over the past 15 years. In the suburbs, where over-lit shopping mall parking lots are the norm, only 200 of the Milky Way’s 2,500 stars are visible on a clear night. Even fewer can be seen from large cities. In almost every town, big and small, street lights beam just as much light up and out as they do down, illuminating much more than just the street.

7) ___________________________________________________

America has become so bright that in a satellite image of the United States at night, the outline of the country is visible from its light alone. Mark Adams, superintendent of the McDonald Observatory in west Texas, says that the very fact that city lights are visible from on high is proof of their wastefulness. “When you’re up in an airplane, all that light you see on the ground from the city is wasted. It’s going up into the night sky. That’s why you can see it.”

8) ___________________________________________________

But don’t we need all those lights to ensure our safety? The answer from light engineers, light pollution control advocates, and astronomers is an emphatic, “No.”

Elizabeth Alvarez of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA), a non-profit organization in Tucson, Arizona, says that overly bright security lights can actually force neighbors to close the shutters, which means that if any criminal activity does occur on the street, no one will see it.

And the old assumption that bright lights deter crime appears to have been a false one: there is no documenter correlation between the level of lighting and the level of crime in an area. And contrary to popular belief, more crimes occur in broad daylight that than at night.

9) ___________________________________________________

For drivers, light can actually create a hazard. Glaring lights can temporarily blind drivers, increasing the likelihood of an accident. To help prevent such accidents, some cities and states prohibit the use of lights that impair night-time vision.

10) ___________________________________________________

Badly designed lighting can pose a threat to wildlife as well as people. Newly hatched turtles should be moving toward the ocean, not toward the glittering beach lights. Migrating birds, confused by lights on skyscrapers, broadcast towers and lighthouses. They can be injured, sometimes fatally, after colliding with high, lighted structures. And light pollution harms air quality as well: Because most of the country’s power are still powered by fossil fuels, more light means more air pollution.

List of Headings:

  1. Seen from above
  2. Environmental danger
  3. People at risk from bright lights
  4. A false truth about lights
  5. More light than is necessary
  6. Approaching the city

Kunci Jawaban

1) How a concept from one field of study was applied in another

2) A proposal to take control away from the driver

3) Areas of doubt and disagreement between experts

4) The impact of driver behavior on traffic speed

Akibatnya, jalan menjadi macet.

5) Approaching the city

5) Mendekati kota

6) More light than is necessary

7) Seen from above

8) A false truth about lights

8) Kebenaran palsu tentang cahaya

9) People at risk from bright lights

[Cerita Berjualan] Rainbow Crepes Sidoarjo (Part 3: Pre-Order dan Cash on Delivery)

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 3

PART 4 | PART 5 | PART 6

Minggu, 26 Februari 2023, booth kami ambil kembali.

Lalu, selanjutnya apa?

Kembali ke Cara Lama

Kami sepertinya akan kembali berjualan lewat pre-order.

Dulu, kami sempat mencoba menjual barang dagangan ke beberapa teman, sebelum akhirnya membuka booth di depan Alfamart.

Kami buka pre-order, kemudian COD-an di suatu tempat. Biasanya, kami membuka pre-order seminggu dua kali.

Sambil Mempersiapkan Untuk Bulan Ramadan

Kami sedang fokus merapikan akun instagram kami: @rainbowcrepes_sidoarjo

Link Go Food: https://gofood.co.id/surabaya/restaurant/rainbow-crepes-puri-surya-jaya-taman-nagoya-1cc61ede-b5d9-4582-94b0-1454f89da97c

Seperti yang saya bilang di awal, kami mau take it slow dulu.

Kami mau memulai Rainbow Crepes pelan-pelan, sambil melihat lagi perkembangannya bagaimana.

Itu saja untuk part 3. See you in the next part.

Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
